Staying down in Ölüdeniz itself puts you right by the water — a compact grid of hotels, apart-hotels and small pensions behind Belcekız beach, with the seafront promenade, tour kiosks and restaurants all on foot. It's the natural choice for first-timers and families who want the beach and the lagoon on their doorstep rather than a dolmuş ride away, and it's calmer in the evenings than the hillside strip. Expect to pay a little more than Ovacık/Hisarönü, with less nightlife — the trade-off for the location.
Getting there: In Ölüdeniz village behind Belcekız beach; everything walkable, with the Fethiye dolmuş from here.
Tip: Book early for July–August — the beachfront places sell out first. For nightlife and lower prices, look up the hill at Ovacık/Hisarönü instead.
