Saklıkent Gorge
Things to do · Ölüdeniz, Fethiye, Türkiye
Saklıkent ('Hidden City') is an 18 km gorge cut by an icy mountain river about an hour east of Ölüdeniz — one of the deepest canyons in the world. You cross a boardwalk clinging to the rock, then wade and scramble up the riverbed between towering walls, the water numbing even in high summer, which is exactly the appeal on a 40 °C day. Grippy shoes are essential — you can hire rubber ones at the entrance — and the current can run strong after rain. Most visitors come on an organised day tour, often paired with the ruins at Tlos and a riverside trout lunch.
Getting there: About an hour east of Ölüdeniz; easiest as an organised day tour.
Tip: Grippy shoes (or hire rubber ones at the entrance); the water's cold and the rock is slick. Easiest as an organised day tour.
