Butterfly Valley, Ölüdeniz

Butterfly Valley (Kelebekler Vadisi) is a dramatic, steep-sided gorge opening onto a small beach, reached mainly by boat from Ölüdeniz. It's named for the Jersey tiger moths that gather here in summer; a rough path leads back through the valley to a waterfall. The valley is a protected area with a laid-back beach-camp scene — most people come as day-trippers by boat, while a few stay overnight in simple bungalows. The scramble to the waterfall is rougher than it looks, so wear proper shoes rather than flip-flops.

Getting there: By day boat from Ölüdeniz, or a steep footpath down from Faralya.

Tip: Easiest by day boat from Ölüdeniz. The scramble up to the waterfall is rougher than it looks — shoes, not flip-flops.
